BBSU is a youth-centered organization that organizes to build the power of Black and Brown young people in CT to protect students’ rights by ending school discipline policies and practices that rely on policing, violence, and surveillance.
OUR VISION
BBSU is building a world where students no longer experience repressive school discipline policies but instead experience just and liberatory schooling.
Why We Organize
We organize because young people deserve schools and communities that nurture their potential instead of policing their existence. For too long, Black and Brown students have been pushed out of classrooms, criminalized, and silenced. We believe our voices matter, and when we come together, we have the power to create real change.
Organizing gives us the tools to:
Challenge injustice
By confronting policies and practices that harm our communities.
Build power
By uniting students, families, and allies across Connecticut.
Transform schools
Into spaces that are safe, supportive, and rooted in care, not punishment.
Lead with youth voices
Because the people closest to the problems are also closest to the solutions.
Theory of change
Building the capacity of young people to analyze, organize, and make decisions through deeper connections with their peers and communities will lead to collective power and meaningful change that shapes policy for schools to become safe spaces for Black and Brown students.
